“You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.”
Up to this point in my life, I have been more personally blessed than most. This causes me to think about the issues raised here. At what point does our modern life of convenience
and comfort become self-indulgence? It’s not always clear to me. Sitting at home and doing nothing all night may be just what God has in mind for me sometimes. I strive for
balance. What is the guiding light in my life? I often fight the tendency to let my faith become merely a belief, versus a process that calls me to respond. If we maintain Christ’s
teachings as our guiding light, we are continually seeking the right balance in our lives. If we lose sight of Jesus, self-indulgence takes over, and of all the things mentioned above
(including fattening myself) become my focal point.
DEAR GOD, HELP ME LOOK FOR A WAY TO DIE TO MY OWN WANTS AS AWAY TO SERVE YOU. AMEN.
