But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on
the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
I often think about the second part of this verse in which God reminds us that we cannot see as He sees. God knows us by what is in our hearts. Outward appearances or false
pretenses do not distract and fool Him as they do us. This verse inspires me to keep trying to be more accepting of others, and remember that God will ultimately look into the hearts
of all human beings, including those who do not yet know Him. I try not to pretend that I know what He will see there.
LORD, YOUR LOVE AND MERCY ARE GREAT AND WONDERFUL GIFTS.HELP US PREPARE OUR OWN HEARTS AND FILL THEM WITH YOUR
LOVE, SO THAT WE MAY BE MORE TOLERANT, AND FORGIVING TOWARD ONE ANOTHER. HELP US REMEMBER THAT WE ALL SIN
EQUALLY IN YOUR EYES AND WE ARE ALL EQUALLY IN NEED OF YOUR GRACE. AMEN.
