“Arise, cry out in the night as the watches of the night begin; pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children who faint from hunger at the head of every street.”

When I was in high school at Great Hills Christian School in Austin, Texas, the headmaster’s wife marveled that her son, not yet in school, had prayed a prayer that had really touched
her. “He’s just a little kid, you know, so you really don’t expect him to understand about God yet.” How often do we short-change children in this way? Are we so sophisticated that we
understand God? Or is it that we have become sophisticated enough to doubt Him? These days we hear many horrible reports about children and young adults murdering each other. There
is darkness in this world, and children are fainting everywhere because they are spirituallystarved. We are born with a hunger and a need for God, but, like the disciples, we discourage
the young from looking for Him. It is never too early to seek God.

DEAR GOD, WE PRAY FOR OUR CHILDREN BECAUSE WE CANNOT SAVE THEM, ONLY YOU CAN. GIVE US THE COURAGE TO ALLOW THEM TO
GROW AND THE FAITH TO TRUST THAT YOU WILL NOT ABANDON THEM. HELP US ALL REALIZE THAT LITTLE EYES WATCH US AND LOOK
UP TO US. MAY OUR FAITH BE AS PURE AND AS SIMPLE AS THEIRSWHEN THEY FIRST BELIEVE. AMEN.
