“I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you – the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those
that came out of the ark with you – every living creature on earth.”
Caring for animals is not just the prerogative of the “animal lovers” or “tree huggers.” It is also the duty of every believer, since God had a covenant with humans and with all
the living things coming out of Noah’s ark. St. Francis, an early church leader is known for his care for the birds and other creatures. Traditionally, October 4 is a day set aside for
the blessing of animals. Many churches observe this event. Our church also follows such a tradition.
DEAR LORD, SOFTEN OUR HEARTS SO WE CAN EXTEND OUR LOVE AND CARE NOT ONLY TO OUR LOVED ONES AND FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS, BUT ALSO TO THE LIVING CREATURES CREATED AND PRESERVED IN YOUR GLORY. AMEN.
