Please take a few minutes to read this parable about the workers in the vineyard. For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. . . “Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?” Thus the last shall be first, and the first last.
This passage always serves as a reminder to me of the difference between human and God-like eyes. We say, “This isn’t fair. I’ve done the most work so I deserve the biggest reward.” Thankfully, God is not the scorekeeper that I am. Imagine the story if the agreed upon price was $500,000,000. Not one of the workers actually earned that kind of money,
and that is the point. The payment for the work is a gift to everyone of the workers. This helps me to remember that I am not working in the fields to earn the Owner’s rewards.
Rather I love the Owner and He has asked me to work in His fields.
THANK YOU FOR THIS TIME, LORD, TO SIT IN YOUR PRESENCE AND LISTEN. PLEASE GRANT ME THE PATIENCE AND WISDOM TO UNDERSTAND YOUR MESSAGE AND TO ALLOW YOU TO USE ME TO DO YOUR WILL. AMEN.
