“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name, and leads them out.”

Jesus’ parables were stories using things in the everyday life of the people at that time. I think, if He were talking to me, He would use dogs instead of sheep. My dogs know my voice and are led in their behavior by my behavior. They are trusting because I have given them reason to trust me. And they are dependent on me for their food, their water, an open door to go outside, and a bed at night. And they come to me to be praised and petted and hugged – and to lick me. Christ is all these things and more to us. I think I could learn something about love and faith from my dogs.

LORD, HELP ME BE THE PERSON MY DOG THINKS I AM. AMEN.
