But Thomas was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger in the mark of the nail and my hand in his side, I will not believe.” “Sympathy for Thomas”
Recently I saw this passage from a new perspective. When Jesus appeared, all the disciples were locked in a room out of fear. Thomas wasn’t there; he was the one doing what Jesus wanted. Then, when he did arrive, he was told about Jesus’ appearance by the disciples who were still locked in a room. Maybe Thomas was wondering why they were still living in fear if they had actually seen Jesus. Maybe that is what people say about me when they see me living in fear even though I tell them that Jesus will take care of everything if we let him. It’s time to teach by doing!
LORD, GIVE ME THE COURAGE TO LIVE THE WAY I KNOW I SHOULD. AMEN.
