“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.”

What a promise! God will comfort and strengthen our hearts in every good work and word… not in a random order, not whenever He wants to, not on a whim, but in EVERY good work and word we do. Which of us does not long for that very support? When we most need it, God will provide. When we have given all we have in His service, He will bless us with His strength. I do not think this means it will always be easy, or that we will never tire when we are doing good works. Instead I believe it means we will be granted enough support and strength to complete the task, enough assurance to know we are speaking the right words. Isn’t that enough for any of us?

HEAVENLY FATHER, WE COME TO YOU IN AWE AT THE POWER OF YOUR LOVE. FATHER, THANK YOU FOR SUSTAINING US, AS WE SEEK TO DO YOUR WILL. HELP US TO UNDERSTAND THE WORKS YOU WOULD HAVE US DO, AND THE WORDS YOU WOULD HAVE US SAY. WE ASK THESE THINGS IN THE NAME OF JESUS. AMEN.
