“All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful, yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”

Recently I read an article by Dr. Berry Brazelton concerning discipline. He wrote, “The meaning of discipline is teaching, not punishment, and its goal is to teach your child to set her own limits.” Sound familiar? The children of Israel certainly had a difficult time setting limits for themselves, and so do we. The article went on to state that removing the temptation and/or removing the child was preferable to conflict and punishment. Surely it would amaze us to know how often God intervenes in our lives to save us from disaster. He has made us His children and given His Son as our example of self-discipline and godly living. Now we must do our part!

HEAVENLY FATHER, GENTLY GUIDE US IN THE WAY YOU WOULD HAVE US GROW. AMEN.
