“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
This passage touches me, because it says that I cannot merely follow a formula or perform a ritual and be assured of God’s good graces. Rituals are easy to perform and require little thought. Standing and sitting when you are supposed to and repeating what you are supposed to are not enough. This passage says that I must worship in spirit and truth. It means that I must believe it and feel it. When I am standing, sitting, and repeating, I must keep in mind what the whole thing is really for. Rituals assist in the believing and feeling, but they don’t replace them.
FATHER, SHOW ME HOW TO WORSHIP IN THE WAY THAT IS MOST PLEASING TO YOU. ALLOW ME TO LIFT MY EYES AND MY VOICE TOWARD THE HEAVENS IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH. AMEN.
