“Therefore take no thought, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘Wherewithal shall we be clothed?’ For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
We are concerned about the future, as we think any reasonable person would be. We spend a good portion of our time and resources planning for tomorrow. How will I live? How will I take care of my parents? How will I send my children to college? How can I afford that? How can I protect myself from disease? How will I get a job? Will my children turn out right? Our concerns are endless. Often when we are successful in resolving a concern, new ones arise that we never expected. Jesus said we can do nothing without God. When we know that Jesus said I will not leave you alone, when we know that Jesus said I am the light and the way and the door, when we know that Jesus said take no thought for tomorrow-God forgive us. How fruitless our endeavors unless they are focused on God. Seeking the Kingdom of God is establishing a continuous love relationship with God. This is why we were created.
MY LORD GOD, I PRAY THAT I MAY BE CONTENT KNOWING THAT NO DEPTH, NOR HEIGHT, NOR ANY EARTHLY POWER, NOR ANY DARKNESS CAN SEPARATE ME FROM YOUR LOVE. MAY THE LIGHT OF MY CONTENTMENT SHINE. TO YOU I GIVE THE GLORY, FOR TO US YOU GIVE PEACE THAT PASSETH UNDERSTANDING. AMEN.
