“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation upon the rock; and when a flood rose, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”

In this parable, Jesus said that everyone who hears His words and acts upon them is like the man who built on a good foundation. Conversely, those who hear but do not act accordingly are like a house built with no foundation. That house will immediately collapse under pressure. Notice that Jesus does not say “if” a flood rose, but “when” a flood rose! Our lives are filled with “floods.” We can stand firm with confidence if our faith is built on Christ, our solid Rock. As the hymn states, “All other ground is sinking sand.”

O MASTER DESIGNER, IN MOMENTS OF DESPAIR, LET US NOT FORGET YOUR PERFECT PLAN FOR OUR LIVES. AMEN.
