“O Lord, Thou hast searched me and known me. Thou dost know when I sit down and when I rise up; Thou dost understand my thought from afar. . .”

This passage continues to play a strong role in my understanding of God’s presence in our lives. When I was given my first opportunity to preach, this was my text. I was all of
eighteen years old, and had worked so hard to write my thoughts down. I realize now that my “sermon” was probably only a couple of minutes long, and as far as a sermon
went, it was pretty lousy. In spite of all that, whenever I find myself seeking guidance in my life, or direction in my calling, this passage has a way of coming to light. These
verses serve as a reminder to me that God is with me everywhere, at all times, that God has known me intimately from before my birth into this physical world and that God’s
infinite nature is truly beyond comprehension. We could spend our entire lives and never come close to all that is God.

SEARCH ME, O GOD AND KNOW MY HEART; TRY ME AND KNOW MY ANXIOUS THOUGHT; AND SEE IF THERE BE ANY HURTFUL WAY IN ME, AND LEAD ME IN THE EVERLASTING WAY. AMEN.
