“I am the light of the world; he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.”

Jesus is called the Light of the world in many different places and in many different ways. He said it Himself in the scripture above. He lights the dark corners of the world and our lives. He shines like a beacon to guide us, surrounds us with the warm glow of love, sheds the fire of Pentecost; and the soft light of Easter morning is unmatched. We may not take this for granted but look at light a bit differently for a moment. The dictionary says a prism is “a transparent body with triangular bases” (a Trinity?). Think of that cold, hard, three-sided object as the key to something magical. When light shines through the prism, it’s divided into seven beautiful colors: violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. These are the colors of the rainbow, God’s promise after the flood. Think of Jesus not just as a bringer of light but as a prism. Looking “through” him, his light makes the world and all in it more beautiful, more loving, more helpful, more satisfying, more spiritual. When you consider a problem or decision, look at it in the light of Jesus – and through the prism of Jesus. Your confusion may sort itself into an ordered pattern; something ugly may become colorful; something impossible may be transformed. Let YOUR light so shine that the spectacular colors of Christian life are spread over the world. Show your true colors!

BLESSED JESUS, WHO BROUGHT US THE BEAUTY OF YOUR LOVE AND THE JOY OF LOVING ONE ANOTHER AS YOU COMMAND US, RENEW US CONSTANTLY AND FILL US WITH THE SPECTACULAR BANNER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. AMEN.
