“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.”

After an unusually difficult day at work, a friend may ask me a simple question that calls for me to make a choice. Feeling overwhelmed, I might jokingly reply that “I’ve made too many decisions today, why not try again tomorrow.” And then it never fails, I immediately pause, baffled by the number of decisions we all must make during the course of the day. A remark made in humor suddenly transforms into a plea of helplessness. As Christians, however, we are taught that we are not helpless. We can find comfort in faithful adherence to God’s guidance. With so many difficult choices facing us in a single day, it is imperative that we not ask passively for such guidance. When the Lord answers our prayers, our faith must follow through to the moment of action. God may give us a clear course, though the journey that follows remains very challenging.

DEAR HEAVENLY FATHER, WE ARE EASILY OVERWHELMED BY THIS WORLD. LET OUR HEARTS BE OPEN TO HEAR YOUR GUIDANCE, AND REMIND US THROUGH CHRIST’S EXAMPLE HOW TO ENDURE THE CHALLENGES THAT ARE THERE FOR US TO FACE. AMEN.
