“Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head, set it up as a memorial stone, and poured oil on top of it. He called that site Bethel.”
The Lord wants each of us to have Bethels in our lives. He wants us to give our lives to Him in our living rooms or our kitchen tables, so we can call our homes Bethel, “House of God.” He wants to forgive, free, heal, and save people at our places of employment so that factory, office, hospital, school, or field may rightly be called Bethel. The landscape of our
lives should be dotted with Bethels. A year or so ago I went to a retreat. There were thirty men in the group. We met together every Sunday evening for six months afterwards to
grow spiritually, so that we could give a retreat for another group of men in our church. Every time we met, we started by singing the song “Holy Ground”. With thirty male
voices singing, the Holy Spirit filled the room. We didn’t always meet in the same room but, wherever we met, there was a Bethel during that song. Look in your homes, your
work places; wherever you call the Holy Spirit, there you will have your Bethel.
FATHER, MAKE ME HOLY AND MAKE PLACES HOLY. AMEN.
