John answered them, “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not know, the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandal.”
John the Baptist was a kook. He answered direct questions with scripture and spent all his time in the river pouring water on people. This kook knew something was afoot, however. He had the privilege of knowing that he would not only meet the only Son of God (and his sandal), but that he would be the one to baptize Him. If God told me that all of this would happen, could I spend my time in the river pouring water on people? Am I afraid to be a kook?
GOD, GIVE ME THE STRENGTH TO STAND UP AND BE A KOOK. SHOW ME HOW TO EXPRESS YOUR LOVE TO EVERYONE I ENCOUNTER. AMEN.
